Thornlands State School
De Luca was contracted to undertake the construction of a two-level building to replace an existing library (originally opened in 1980). The project was undertaken as part of the Building the Education Revolution (BER) program, rolled out for The Department of Education and Training in a number of state schools across Queensland. As part of the program, schools were able to apply for funding to the Australian Government to cover the cost of the construction of much needed facilities and all other associated project specific development costs.
As per most of the education projects De Luca is contracted for, the school remained operational throughout the demolition of the existing building and the construction of the new building. The safety of all students, staff, and visitors to the school was ensured through a high level of safety precautions.
The construction project consisted of the ground level library, an air-conditioned resource centre, a movie-making green room, two conference rooms, and two fully equipped expansive computer labs. The top level consisted of four classrooms, student ‘withdrawal areas’, a fully equipped kitchen, and storage rooms.
