Apex Steel was constructed in 2017 as part of the Interchange Industrial Estate at Narangba, located on the northside of Brisbane. This project originally consisted of a 6,000m2 warehouse and manufacturing facility, with attached 500m2 commercial office. De Luca managed the integrated fit-out of machinery plant into the warehouse, alongside the fit-out of their office within the original build time. In 2018, De Luca were approached again by Apex to construct a 1,500m2 expansion of the existing warehouse with 2 new awnings, and 3,300m2 of external hardstand with 31 car parking spaces.
Due to the heavy machinery and plant that is used everyday throughout the warehouse, the project required a post-tensioned warehouse slab to account for the additional load capacity, and also included a policed office slab. Four overhead gantry cranes were installed as part of the fit-out, two 20 foot cranes and 2 10 foot cranes. To maximise the space within the warehouse, De Luca worked hand-in-hand with the client to engineer the building and create a special design that factored in the daily movements and processes undertaken throughout the warehouse area.
